Doug Levin’s Chronology
Taking a closer look at Doug Levin‘s background and evolution as a small business owner.
2005

Undergraduate Studies
In 2005, I graduated with a BA in US History (post Civil War). As it turns out, history majors do a lot of writing and document preparation which are particularly relevant present day skills. I wasn’t exactly an honor student and had no clue what I’d do after graduation. However, I made lots of friends and enjoyed my time which included attending countless KU basketball, football, and baseball games.

Starting My Professional Career
After finishing undergraduate studies, I moved back to Chicago and joined CareerBuilder as a Multimedia Account Representative. My first role there involved selling job ads (classifieds) in the Kansas City Star and on CareerBuilder.com to companies in KC.
During my 6+ years at CareerBuilder, I gained valuable experience in sales, business development, and operations. One of my highlights was a four-month stint living and working abroad in the London, UK office for CareerBuilder.co.uk during Spring / Summer 2007.
In my final role there, I served as Operations Manager for ‘cbResume’, the company’s (now defunct) Resume Writing service. This was my initial foray into the world of career services and helping job seekers.
2009 to 2010

Getting an MBA
While working fulltime, I attended graduate school in pursuit of a Master’s degree. I spent one semester at Loyola University Chicago prior to transferring to Roosevelt University.
During graduate studies, my commitment was put to the test, balancing a demanding work schedule while attending classes on nights and weekends. In December 2010, I earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing.

Resume Writing and Building JobStars
After nearly seven years working in the corporate world and earning an MBA in Marketing, I quit my comfortable job and ventured into the unknown. All I knew is that I had an entrepreneurial itch to scratch.
It took blind courage to leave my job and I didn’t have a plan when I made the leap. I also needed a way to make ends meet. That’s when I started working as a freelance Resume Writer.
Day after day, I worked on new Resume projects. In total, amassing 10,000+ hours of experience as a practicing Resume Writer serving a broad range of clients. Along the way, I built JobStars. This involved developing an e-commerce website, establishing a menu of services, and managing all the other aspects of running a business.
Pictured above is a throwback photo to the earliest JobStars days (circa 2011).
2014 to 2017

Driving for Uber
To supplement my income during the process of building JobStars, I drove for Uber in Chicago for nearly three years.
During this time, I gave rides to countless interesting people and even a few local Chicago celebrities. In total, I completed 6,980 trips over 33 months with a 4.85 driver rating.
Uber provided a financial lifeline that enabled me to continue building the business. Without Uber, I might’ve been forced to quit on my dream and return to the corporate world.
Although I was happy to eventually depart Uber for greener pastures – I still like to look back at the fun stories and experiences I had being an Uber driver in the greatest city in the world.
2017 to Present
Resume Writer and Business Owner
After six years of building the JobStars website and refining my craft as a Resume Writer, I officially dropped my side hustles and transitioned into running JobStars fulltime.
As the Lead Resume Writer, I oversee the delivery of top notch services for entry through executive-level clients across a broad range of industries and occupations. In addition to being Lead Resume Writer, I oversee day-to-day business operations for JobStars USA.
Here in 2025, I am living my dreams as a successful small business owner. Thank you JobStars clients!
